Asylum, in Italy 79,900 asylum requests submitted, 66,000 examined, protection provided to 42%

22nd December 2015 - According to data provided by the President of the National Commission for Asylum, Prefect Angelo Trovato, in 2015 (data updated to 11/12) 79,900 people have requested asylum in Italy; 66,000 requests have been examined (including requests submitted prior to the period in question). 42% have received some form of protection: 5% have obtained refugee status, 15% subsidiary protection and 22% humanitarian protection. Asylum seekers have come mainly from Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal and Afghanistan.
