Introductory Course, The International Protection of Refugees

The annual ELENA Introductory Course, the International
Protection of Refugees, is taking place on 18th - 20th November in
the San Malhoa Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal.
The course fee is 485
Euros per person for lawyers and NGO staff; and 585 Euros for
government participants. There is an additional discount of 40 Euros
for ECRE members and ELENA co-ordinators.
Speakers include
Elspeth Guild, Kees Wouters and Gabor Gyulai and the course will
cover the definition of a refugee, exclusion from refugee status,
cessation of refugee status, non-refoulement and statelessness.
ECRE is also pleased
to announce an additional speaker, Rodger Haines QC. He is
Chairperson of the New Zealand Human Rights Review Tribunal and
Adjunct Lecturer in Law at the Faculty of Law, Auckland University.
In the period 1991 to 2010 he was Deputy Chair of the NZ Refugee
Status Appeals Authority and wrote many of its principal decisions.
He has also co-taught papers in Comparative Asylum Law with
Professor James C. Hathaway at the University of Michigan Law School,
Ann Arbor.
