VI.TO. Kairos is a
project of Hospitality and Care for victims of torture
which was created in 1996 within the Italian council for
Refugees in Rome. The Project is cofinanced by the
European Commission - Human Rights and Democratization –
and by the United Nations Voluntary fund for Victims of
Torture. In 2006 the Project was also supported by
Province of Rome, the Foundation Unidea and by the
Compagnia di San Paolo. VI.TO. Kairos is a member of
IRTC – International Rehabilitation Council for Torture
Victims.
Within the Project VI.TO.
Kairos the following activities are foreseen:
-
Legal support and
orientation
-
Social support and
orientation
-
Medical and
psychological care
-
Medical certification
-
Psychosocial
rehabilitation workshops
All of these factors are
considered as therapeutical actions and therefore we
always apply an holistic approach based on a very strong
équipe work.
A very significant aspect
of the Project is related to the Psycho-social
Rehabilitation Workshops, which constitute a strong
reference point in terms of space, time and social
relations, especially at the beginning of the stay in
Italy.
Since 2002 CIR-VI.TO.
cooperates with San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital, one of
the main hospitals in Rome. In particular the Centre for
the Treatment of post traumatic and stress pathologies
dedicates three days a week to CIR-VI.TO. beneficiaries.
Granting them medical care, diagnosis, certification and
clinical research.
On June 26 the
International day in support of Victims of Torture is
celebrated all over the world. The day was announced by
the UN in 1997 and it has become a very important
aggregation occasion during which the associations
organize and take part to events of sensitisation and
denounce of this crime.
The global campaign “June
26 - together against torture” is yearly coordinated by
the IRCT. CIR-VI.TO. is a member OF the IRCT and
actively participates to the international campaign of
sensitisation.
Training courses and
seminars are also organized.
